'The Bulletin' Brings Readers March for Life Schedule

Millions of people from all over the world have gathered at the National Mall on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade to witness to the fundamental right to life since 1974.

This year’s March for Life events cover four days, including the climactic walk to the Supreme Court building on Jan. 22, which is expected to draw over 400,000 people. The Bulletin is proud to keep its readers abreast of this year’s March for Life activities including ecumenical workshops, rallies, prayer services, speakers and outreach on life issues.

Wednesday, January 21


Cardinal O’Connor Conference

8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Georgetown University, 37th And O Street, N.W.

The ninth annual Cardinal O’Connor Conference will connect college and high school students from around the country and educate them on “the sacredness of all human life.” Cardinal O’Connor, the late Archbishop of New York, was renowned for “his courage as a champion of the unborn.”

Rock for Life Training & Activism Week Personhood Conference Kick-off Memorial Walk


9 to 11:30 a.m.

Planned Parenthood, 1108 16th Street, N.W.

After a prayer vigil at Planned Parenthood, Rock for Life, a “teen-oriented collection of many bands who hold that abortion is the killing of an innocent human,” will lead a walk from Planned Parenthood to the White House at 10:15 a.m., ending at the Supreme Court at 11:30 a.m.

Rock for Life Pro-life Workshops and Concert

1 to 5 p.m., 7 p.m.

Liaison Capitol Hill Hotel, 415 New Jersey Avenue, N.W.

Rock for Life workshops will include an international panel to address the status of the global pro-life movement and a session on pro-life blogging hosted by pro-life activist and blogger Jill Stanek.  Live music will be provided at a praise and worship rally and Rock for Life Concert in the hotel starting at 7 p.m.

National Prayer Vigil for Life 2009

7p.m. to 12 a.m.

Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Michigan Avenue, N.E.    

Opening Mass for the national prayer vigil will be celebrated from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the Basilica’s Great Upper Church.

On the lower level, confessions will be heard from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. in Our Lady of Hostyn Chapel and the National Rosary for Life will be said at 10:15 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in the Crypt Church. Most Rev. William Skurla of Byzantine Eparchy of Passaic, with members of Epiphany of our Lord Church in Annandale, Virginia will lead night prayer from 11 to 12 a.m. in the Crypt Church.

Holy Hours and Morning Prayer

12 to 7 a.m.

Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Michigan Avenue, N.E.    

Seminarians from across the country will lead Holy Hours for Life in the Basilica’s Crypt Church from 12 to 6:00 a.m. The Dominican House of Studies in Washington D.C. will lead morning prayer in the Crypt Church from 6:30 to 7 a.m.

Catholic Mass

7:30 to 9 a.m.    

The Bishop of Arlington, Virginia, Most Rev. Paul S. Loverde, will be the principal celebrant and homilist for Mass in the Great Upper Church.

10:00 a.m.

Philadelphia Archdiocese Cardinal Justin F. Rigali, Chairman, USCCB Committee for Pro-Life Activities will be the principal celebrant and homilist for Mass in the Great Upper Church.

Rally for Life and Youth Mass 2009

7:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Verizon Center (formerly the MCI Center), 601 F Street, N.W.

Hosted by the Archdiocese of Washington, the annual Youth Rally and Mass for Life will feature Steve Angrisano, Matt Maher and Band, Jessica Marie Tous and the Who Do You Say I Am band.

Mass, celebrated by Washington Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl and other bishops from around the country, will start at 10:00 a.m. Priests will be available for confession from 8 to 9:30 a.m. The Verizon Center doors open at 7 a.m. for seating.

Lutherans for Life Worship Service

Immanuel Lutheran Church, 801 Russell Rd., Alexandria, VA 22301

8 to 11 a.m.

Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod President Gerald Kieschnick to preach at the Northern Virginia chapter of Lutherans For Life’s (LFL) worship service. A free lunch will follow at 9:30 a.m. after which attendees will carpool to join other Lutherans gathered at 7th and 8th Streets for the March. The chapter is also offering to help individuals and groups by arranging for housing through host families.

Interdenominational Prayer Service Led By Fr. Frank Pavone, Priests for Life

Fr. Frank Pavone, of Priests for Life, will preach at the National Memorial for the pre-born and their mothers and fathers in the U.S. Senate. This interdenominational morning prayer service will feature singing and preaching in preparation of the March for Life.

Silent No More

3:45 p.m.

A Project of Anglicans for Life and Priests for Life, Silent No More is a campaign for post-abortive women to share their stories. Post-abortive women will talk about their experiences on the steps of the Supreme Court after the March for Life. Janet Morana and Georgette Forney, Co-Founders of the campaign will be present, along with Fr. Frank Pavone of Priest for Life who will present opening remarks and prayers.
