Nationally Acclaimed Pro-Life Activist To Speak At Villanova

College student Lila Rose, who has exposed the country’s largest abortion provider through her undercover video footage, will speak at Villanova University today.

Ms. Rose has gained national publicity for her videos revealing Planned Parenthood employees’ support for racism, secret abortions and the coverup of alleged statutory rape. Generation Life and Villanovans for Life will sponsor the event, which will take place in room 132 in Driscoll Hall at 7:30 p.m.

“We’re hoping that she will encourage all of us to step out of our comfort zones, that she will encourage young people who believe in an injustice to do something about it — not to say I’m too young, but to go for it,” said Cristina Barba, the college outreach coordinator for Generation Life.

Ms. Rose, a 21-year-old part-time student at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), launched Live Action, a pro-life, “new media” non-profit at age 15.

Live Action appeals to the local and national level and works to “educate and mobilize youth, and to spread a pro-life message to the next generation.” It achieves this through student-led investigations and research projects it releases through Live Action Films, The Advocate (Live Action’s quarterly student magazine), and other independent media. Live Action released its latest video on Planned Parenthood yesterday: “Student Undercover Video Shows Tennessee Planned Parenthood Coaching 14-year-old To Lie About Age Of ‘Boyfriend.’” The 4 minute, 45 second film shows a Planned Parenthood employee telling Ms. Rose, posing as a 14-year-old, to tell a judge to lie about the age of her alleged 31-year-old boyfriend. The judge would then grant her permission to obtain an abortion without her parents’ knowledge.

“Don’t mention it. Just say you have a boyfriend 17 years old ..., whatever,” the employee says. According to Tennessee Code 37-1-605, health professionals must report suspected cases of sexual abuse of minors to law enforcement immediately. Yet, the employee tells Ms. Rose, “I’m not gonna tell anybody, OK?”

This video is the fifth in Live Action’s “Mona Lisa Project,” a nationwide undercover investigation that documents Planned Parenthood’s “repeated noncompliance with state mandatory reporting laws for sexual abuse of minors.” Six clinics throughout Arizona, Indiana and Tennessee were documented as violating the law as a result of this project.

“Planned Parenthood’s abortion-first mentality makes it operate as an advocate for terrible crimes against children,” Ms. Rose wrote on liveaction.org. “What more do authorities need to see before holding this organization accountable for its institutionalized indifference to statutory rape and sexual abuse of children?”

Other notable Live Action videos are part of The Planned Parenthood Racism Project, which documents Planned Parenthood employees accepting donations earmarked for the abortion of black babies.

Ms. Rose was invited to discuss her work on radio and TV programs, including: The O’Reilly Factor, Hannity’s America, The Dr. Laura Show, The Rush Limbaugh and The Laura Ingraham Show. Her work has also been featured  in Hot Air, the Chicago Sun-Times, The Wall Street Journal, World Magazine and The Washington Times.

In 2008, Ms. Rose was named a recipient of the inaugural Life Prizes award, which is given for “outstanding efforts to awaken the conscience of America to the sanctity of human life through public advocacy, scientific research, outreach and public disclosure activities, legal action and other noteworthy achievements.”

“I think this will be a great influence in terms of how much action we can take,” said Susanna Seibert, secretary for Villanovans for Life. “Students will be really motivated because she’s a student just like us and she’s still doing all this stuff for the pro-life movement. We can still do something even from a college student prospective and still help someone.”

Ms. Seibert said Villanovans for Life has grown in recent years; it regularly volunteers at a crisis pregnancy centers and prayers outside of local abortion facilities. Through its partnership with Generation Life, she hopes the group will be able to better network and work with other college pro-life groups.

Ms. Barba said most pro-lifers cannot go undercover, but they can “spread the word” about what those who do find out and help the pro-life movement in other ways.

“They can forward information to friends, blog, write for the opinion pages and not be afraid to speak about these issues when they come up,” she said. “Knowing about alternatives is also important, to be able to know how to direct friends.

“Beyond getting involved it’s important that people know what’s going on out there,” she added. “Most people would be horrified at what Planned Parenthood does, that they would encourage a 14-year-old girl to lie about her relationship with a 31-year-old man. Most people would be horrified that Planned Parenthood is helping perpetuate those situations.”
