CatholicVote.org’s latest commercial, Imagine Spot 2, aired during America’s favorite singing talent show, “American Idol,” on Tuesday and last night. The 60-second, pro-adoption advertisement was shown first in Baltimore and then in select markets throughout North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Nevada and Florida. CatholicVote.org said the second commercial in the organization’s yearlong “Life: Imagine the Potential” series received positive feedback overall.

The commercial shows pictures of different celebrities and asks what they had in common. The answer was they were all adopted — including step-adoptions. “Life: Imagine the Potential” was the tagline at the end of the commercial.

“We hope that by highlighting the common thread between people like Babe Ruth, John Lennon and Faith Hill that Americans will reflect on the enormous gift of every human life,” said Brian Burch, president of CatholicVote.org. “Our ad aims to set aside our political differences, musical tastes, or celebrity fashions and remind our fellow Americans that every life matters, that every life is beautiful.”

Spokesman Joshua Mercer said 120 new people joined CatholicVote.org’s Facebook page and another 100 subscribed to its Twitter feed after the commercial aired in Baltimore.

“We’ve had people post on our Web site thanking us for the ad,” he said. “Any time you do a commercial like this you will get some people who want to focus on the negative, but this commercial is life-affirming and stays positive; it’s just trying to remind everyone of the gift and reward each of us have with our life.”

CatholicVote.org aired its commercial Imagine Spot 1 highlighting the significance of President Barack Obama’s life on Black Entertainment Television on his inauguration day. Mr. Mercer said the organization hopes to release commercials “every couple of months” and expects to release its next Imagine commercial this summer.

“We don’t expect to wake up on Thursday and see a different country,” Mr. Burch said of Imagine Spot 2. “But what we do know is that millions of Americans will see our message of hope this week, a message that cuts across the political and cultural boundaries that too often limit our ability to tell the world what it truly means to be pro-life.”
