Peace Prize Given To An America-Hater
By HERB DENENBERG, For The Bulletin
The symbol of the Nobel Peace Prize should be this Nobel prize-winning trio: Yasser Arafat, the noted mass murderer and terrorist in the middle, flanked on one side by Jimmy Carter, the racist, bigot, and worst ex-president in U.S. history, and President Barack Obama, the worst president in American history. As a British writer observed, the one good thing that might come out of this latest Nobel Peace Prize joke is that it may kill the award altogether. It is now totally discredited, as a fraud and a farce that has nothing to do with peace and everything to do with promoting the liberal, leftist view of the world. Even the most extreme liberals, such as Howard Zinn, were appalled at the award, which he said was made for promises, not performance. And I might add it was made on to a man who breaks almost as many promises as he makes. Conservative observers, such as Mark Steyn, said the award, in effect, is for Mr. Obama’s forswearing American exceptionalism and America’s unique superpower role involving unprecedented humanitarian and military service to the world.
Contrary to much punditry that says it is an honor to America (e.g. Bill O’Reilly on Fox Cable News), it is not intended as an honor to America. It comes from Europeans who hate America, and the Peace Prize honors the hate-America, apologize-for-America views of President Obama. That view plays down the role of America as the superpower that has maintained world peace and prosperity for generations…defeating some of the great threats to survival of civilization such as Hitler’s Nazi tyranny and Stalin’s murderous Communist tyranny. That great America, the golden city on a hill, is also now leading the war against terrorism. It is and has been the greatest force for good and peace in the history of the world and is without a doubt the greatest nation in the history of the world. But that’s not what the five Norwegian members of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee were thinking of. They were thinking of Obama, the pacifist, the appeaser, the apologist, and the first president in history that hates his country.
The Nobel Committee, in the Obama citation, admitted the Prize was awarded for his campaign sentiments. He was elected president based on his career of one speech at the Democratic National Convention. He has accomplished nothing to father peace. In fact, he has dramatically diminished the prospects for peace by weakening our national defenses, by destroying our economy with unsustainable debt, and by attacking our free-market-capitalistic system that created the great engine of prosperity and production that enabled us to maintain our position of preeminent world power. Mr. Obama is attempting to destroy America as we know it, and that would mean destroying the nation responsible for keeping tyrants, terrorists, and war-makers in check.
Consider some of his recent moves. Hamlet-like, he is dithering on making up his mind on the war in Afghanistan, sending our enemies the picture of a naïve, indecisive, flip-flopping, poll-driven rookie, who is more interested in his political base than the survival of his country. All vibes coming from the White House, indicate he is about to weaken our war efforts in Afghanistan, with a new strategy favored by General Joe Biden (Slow Joe, who has a long record of being wrong on every foreign policy and national defense issue, even opposing the liberation of Kuwait), which holds we can win the war on Afghanistan on the cheap. Instead of fighting our enemies, Mr. Obama, as usual is fighting his commanding generals who have asked for more troops and who have devised a strategy for the war in Afghanistan. He battles the CIA and bows and scrapes to our enemies.
He is a peacemaker in the Neville Chamberlain tradition. You can’t bring about world peace by apology, appeasement, weakness, and unilateral disarmament. When he should be focusing on the threat of Iranian weapons of mass destruction, he is busy seeking to negotiate with the Iranian tyrants. The Iranians are now and have been killing Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan, they are threatening a nuclear Holocaust in the Middle East, and they are making their intentions crystal clear. Yet Mr. Obama, as is the case with the war in Afghanistan, keeps setting deadlines for Iran he doesn’t keep. He said he expected action by September if the Iranians didn’t come around. Now it is December. And this endless process of endless talk and forward-moving deadlines will continue until Iran has the bomb. Mr. Obama is less formidable than a paper tiger. At best he can be classified perhaps as a tissue paper tiger.
He is making the same mistakes with the Russians. Instead of standing with our allies in Eastern Europe and building our mutual defenses against missiles, he sells out Czechoslovakia and Poland, he appeases Russia, and gets nothing in return. When the Russians invaded its neighbor, the little state of George, Mr. Obama called for mutual restrain, which means a moral equivalence between aggression and self-defense. Mr. Obama is the great appeaser Neville Chamberlain on steroids. Even Chamberlain got a piece of paper from Hitler; Mr. Obama doesn’t even get that. Instead of doing something about Iran’s nuclear bomb building, Mr. Obama invites the Russians to inspect nuclear facilities in the U.S. This kind of appeasement and betrayal of allies does not assure peace, it only maximizes the chances of war and defeat.
He doesn’t have the moral clarity and political courage to do something to stop Iran from going nuclear. And he tries to stop Israel from doing so. One of his key advisors even suggests that if Israel launches a strike to knockout the Iran nuclear capability, America should shoot down the Israeli planes. What Mr. Obama appears to be doing is trying to set the stage for Holocaust II. Perhaps that is not surprising as he has surrounded himself with anti-Israel foreign policy advisors, and he has a long history of association with anti-Israel, anti-Semitic racists and bigots in Chicago.
Ronald Reagan and American presidents before him were determine to stop the advances of Soviet communism. Obama, as usual, is on the wrong side. He backs the ally of dictator Hugo Chavez in Honduras, and tries to cut the legs out from under the duly constituted government and president of Honduras. He appears to be setting the stage for the likes of Chavez, Castro and the tyrants and communists to gain power in South America. He appears to be undermining the U.S. and its power for peace there and elsewhere.
If you want to understand the true nature of the Nobel Peace Prize, consider the background of those on the committee that awarded it. The chairman of the committee, Thorbjorn Jagland, former Prime Minister of Norway. He is chairman of the Middle East Committee of the Socialist International, a group well known for its opposition to American policy. Jagland, and the others on the committee, are members of the Norwegian Parliament. That Parliament favors recognizing the terrorist organization, Hamas, and wants to negotiate with Iran. It wants to tolerate rogue nations, enhance ties with Muslim nations, and criticize U.S. policy (until the advent of Mr. Obama). The record of the committee suggests it views Mr. Obama as a globalist and internationalist who is willing to water down America sovereignty and build up the U.N. and other international bodies. This body of leftists is not interesting in honoring America but in dishonoring America. They pretty much stand for the opposite of America’s basic values.
So I don’t celebrate Mr. Obama’s Peace Prize. I mourn it, as just one more piece of evidence that Mr. Obama is in the process of destroying America, as we know it. I am reinforced in my view that if his leftward, socialist, anti-American march is not stopped he will so weaken and change America that we will be sitting ducks for our enemies. If Americans don’t mobilize and rise up in massive numbers, Mr. Obama will destroy the greatest country in the history of the world.
