It is regrettable that Representative Joe Sestak, D., Pa., a veteran, strongly supports the administration’s decision to try the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM), in a civilian criminal court in New York City, rather than by military tribunal, which would have far fewer compilations and potential problems. KSM murdered 3,000 plus people and was water boarded, which many forget was done to protect the American people. Will confessions obtained and evidence against him be thrown out because of a perceived violation of his “constitutional rights?” This is far less likely to happen in a military tribunal than in a civilian court.
KSM’s trial will have nothing to do with his guilt or innocence. He has already admitted his guilt. The focus of the trial will be on water boarding. What a perfect opportunity for the Obama administration to investigate the CIA and simultaneously discredit the Bush administration for this practice, which many American’s think was justified under the circumstances. A trial in a civilian court is not only a slap in the face for those families that lost loved ones on 9/11, but could endanger citizens in New York City for a second time.
Doesn’t Representative Sestak realize that classified information will be made available during this trial, which will result in assisting terrorist strategies? This will unquestionably serve to make us more susceptible to future attacks. Aren’t we at war? Don’t our soldiers and the American people deserve better than this? Representative Sestak seems to be more interested in stubbornly sticking to his far-left ideology than in doing what is best for the security of the American people.
