Crowley Classic Film Series: July 18-20
Every weekend this summer The Springer Opera house in Columbus, Ga. plans to screen classic movies for locals to see again on the big screen.
Tickets are only $10 and the theater allows patrons to buy popcorn and soft drinks before the show and consume them during the movie. All beverages are in bottles with caps to prevent spills in one the oldest opera houses in the south.
This weekend film series is sponsored by Scott Crowley, a local Columbus attorney. He says he is a huge fan of cinema and decided to sponsor the series. Unknown to many, The Springer Opera house used to show movies in the 1940s and 50s.
The first film shown this weekend will be the Alfred Hitchcock classic “Rear Window” Thursday at 7 p.m. This movie is regarded as one of the director’s best and stars one of the most popular actors of all time, Jimmy Stewart. In this movie Stewart breaks his leg and is forced to stay inside while he recovers. During this time he begins to observe his neighbors and soon begins to think he may have witnessed a murder.
The horror classic “The Shinning” will be shown Friday at 7 p.m. This award winning horror movies is based upon the Stephen King novel of the same name and is direction by Stanely Kubrick – one of the most highly regarded directors of all time.
Saturday at 2 p.m. The Springer Opera House will show the kid friendly movie “The Goonies.” Later that night they will show the R-rated comedy “Swingers.”
Make sure to arrive early if you want concessions. The theater opens up 30 minutes early before screenings.
